A Tribute to Dancehall Queen Carlene
Now I have to pay tribute to this great woman, as I watch Rihanna’s Video rude bwoy for the hundredth time as I marvel at how outrageous Lady GaGa seems in her torn stockings and studded G-String. One Woman comes to mind, Jamaica’s own Dance Hall Queen Carlene she did it first and she did it in a time when women weren’t trying to take it off, she it and she flaunted her sexuality like a badge.
She was every Jamaican man’s dream our own home made play boy image, she was light skin and thick!!! Men in prison did more than dream to be with her, Beenie Man had to give her a child, one thing was for sure we couldn’t take our eyes off Carlene. She invented the popular dance move “butterfly” she wore leather two piece bikini’s and fish net stocking and the blonde hair! oh my goodness the blonde hair, she made all the girls in Jamaica who are going Blonde now, well sweet heart you better thank her she showed you how to do it.
And so I Lauren Alexander would like to personally pay tribute to one of Jamaica’s Icons, one of the greatest women to ever grace dance hall, the woman who I dare say has the real “pum pum power” Dance Hall Queen Carlene you will never be forgotten for what you have done for women in this country for women worldwide, whe you are in doubt just look at Rihanna now, Beyonce and Lady Gaga and know that you set the trend!!!!
